Show us the funny: Flagship’s comedy evening goes down a storm
20 July 2012:
In order to firmly establish our partnership with US agency, Peppercom, team Flagship recently undertook Peppercom’s Comedy Experience under the direction and guidance of Co-founder and Managing Partner, Steve Cody.
Steve’s day workshop blends comedic story telling strategies and techniques with the very serious communication needs of major organisations to help clients break down barriers, improve internal communications and culture, enhance executives’ storytelling abilities and, critically, enhance morale.
After briefly learning about the four types of stand-up comedy – story-telling, observational, acting out and improvisational comedy – one by one, we took to the stage/front of the room to conquer our phobia of making spectacles of ourselves, and told a true story involving something that aggravates us. Amazingly, every single one of us was funny. We all felt more confident, as well as enlivened by the experience of performing. How the experience lends itself to better business is immediately noticeable.
The celebration of Flagship’s partnership with Peppercom continued the following evening, with our client event to celebrate the Peppercom partnership and showcase the Peppercom offering, including the Comedy Experience. As well as being treated to quality material from our jovial MC, Lloyd Griffith, and a hilarious headline act, Joel Dommett, Flagship’s very own Will Brewster took to the stage to demonstrate how the training paid off; performing his story around his fear of getting old, for a delighted crowd of clients and guests.
Drinks and more laughter ensued – introductions were made and partnerships formed, all under the contagious influence of the comedy experience.
